The brand Raymond Weil was founded in 1976 by Raymond Weil himself. During the quartz era, the company wanted to create something different from cheap quartz watches so Raymond Weil introduced entry-level luxury watches. Raymond Weil is now considered as one of the brand that has managed to sustain the Swiss watchmaking industry during the 1980s. The company has always been inspired by music so in 1983 Raymond Weil launched the Amadeus collection, named after Mozart. Other collections were also inspired by music like the Fidelio, the Traviata or the Saxo collection. Most of the watches are Swiss made with a Swiss quartz movement. Today the brand remains an independent, family-run Swiss brand. In 2010 the brand unveiled the Maestro collection which featured the brand’s first moon phase complication on an automatic calibre.
